Helmet Therapy

The boys have something called Torticollis. It essentially means "tight neck." They favor turning their heads a certain way because they were positioned in the womb a certain way. They didn't have much room. We have a physical therapist that comes twice a month to teach me exercises to do with them to strengthen and stretch their necks. Because they favored turning their heads certain ways they formed flat spots. They are now doing helmet therapy to reshape their heads to be nice and round.

The process for making the helmets was fun to watch. We casted them for the helmets at FitWell in SLC. The boys hated it. It took a long time. But they looked so cute while doing it!

First was Jacob...

Then Luke...

We got the helmets 2 weeks later and they didn't fit. The poor boys had bruised ears and marked noses. I was so upset because the appointments were so long and difficult with 3 children. So they tried to reshape them. It didn't work. So they recasted them for new helmets. Those didn't fit. He reshaped them and now they do fit okay but it was an emotional ride for a frustrated momma.

And now they fit! Finally. What a relief! They will now wear them for about 3 months until their heads grow into a perfect shape and then we'll be done!

What a ride! I'm glad they got what they need and especially glad that now they fit well.
