Hospital Pictures

I was lucky enough to have two of my best friends visit me at the hospital. Emily did my hair and took lots of pictures for Ben and I. Rebecca had made a beautiful quilt for Molly and I was able to take a few pictures with it. I am so grateful for them.

Molly Pearl Shugart

Molly Pearl Shugart was born on Friday September 15, 2017 at 3:33 P.M. I was 39 weeks and 5 days. She weighed 8 lbs 11 oz and was 20" long.

The last few weeks of pregnancy was miserable. I tried several natural induction techniques and nothing worked. I went to the doctors on Thursday afternoon and Dr. Samara Lazernick said that she hoped to see me that evening at the hospital. I was in a lot of pain that night and was so restless but there was no baby. So when I woke up Friday morning still pregnant I started to cry. I felt miserable. My mom called around 10:30 in the morning and I told her how I was emotionally exhausted and in so much pain. It felt like the baby was never going to come. About an hour later I had some really bad contractions but I chose to ignore them. The boys needed to leave for preschool at noon so I needed to get them ready. When carpool came to get the boys, Emily said, "When are you having this baby!?" I responded, "I actually think I'm in labor right now." Her eyes went big and I told her it would be fine.

I ended up calling Ben shortly after noon and told him I thought I was in labor but wasn't sure. He was home within 15 minutes. He told me that he was on his way to American Burger for lunch with his coworkers. I LOVE American Burger. So when he told me he left I felt awful. My first thought was that he didn't need to leave lunch, I could've lasted another hour without him.  We started getting ready for the hospital. We called my parents and let them know to get ready in case the hospital admitted me. On the way out the door we took one last picture.

We got to the hospital around 1:15 pm. I was at 5 cm and 70% effaced. My doctor usually doesn't work Friday afternoons but happened to be walking down the hall when we showed up. It was such a blessing because then she was with me the whole time. She broke my water. And she was really supportive of me doing natural birth. She encouraged me to stand and walk around. She gave me suggestions and words of encouragement. I was able to get a priesthood blessing from Ben and Val Stevens. He was the pharmacist at the hospital, so when he walked in to confirm my allergies it was such a tender mercy. I was grateful he could assist Ben in the blessing.

It was happening so fast that I didn't have any breaks. I was miserable. Screaming was my only relief. Everything I had planned went out the window. All our soothing music that we downloaded was never used. All of my notes were never even looked at. The only thing I had on my mind was how ridiculously painful it was. Around 3:15 I started to push and she was born at 3:33pm.

"Quiet Hours" at the hospital are between 2 P.M. and 4 P.M. They encourage mothers to rest and visitors to stay away. I thought it was a little funny afterwards that I was screaming my head off during those hours. Those poor mothers.

It was such a crazy experience. I woke up that morning crying that I wasn't in labor. Telling my mom at 10:30 that I wasn't in labor yet. Calling Ben at 12:00 saying I might be, getting to the hospital at 1:15, and having her by 3:33pm. It was so fast.

I really liked my experience at Mountain West Medical Center. I loved all of the nurses. They were all so kind to me and really enjoyable to be around. I love that my doctor was there for the entire birthing process and I love how involved she was. I also loved the facility. We had a huge room and we were in the same room for the entire process. The baby never left my room for cleaning. They cleaned and checked her right in the room and had all of the equipment right there.

After I showered, rested a little, and ate dinner, Ben went home to get my parents and the kids so they could meet Molly. Then Ben went home while I stayed at the hospital. He came every day to visit but for the most part it was Molly and Me at the hospital with Ben and the kids at home. I was there until Monday afternoon.
