Dance and Preschool

Lucy was really struggling every day she came home from preschool. And to be honest, I was really struggling with her preschool for my own reasons. I went to volunteer and I was disappointed to say the least. I completely came to understand why Lucy was struggling.  I came home and quickly called another preschool to sign her up, but they were full. So we decided to pull her out.

We are using the money instead to have her in dance class. After a month of stressful preschool problems it was so good to see her accelerating at dance. I was beaming the whole hour as I watched her. I knew that the problems she was having was because of the environment she was in, so putting her in a healthy and happy environment felt like such a relief. The teachers and the setup for dance were amazing.

I still think its important to have preschool. I taught Lucy and another little boy in my ward very casually last year. We had so much fun. Here is a glimpse of what I did last year.

This year, I decided we'll do preschool again. But this time, it will be very structured. I figured she'll need classmates, so we invited 3 other children in the neighborhood. I've been working all week trying to get everything ready. I converted my front room into the Circle Time room. There we will go over the calendar, the pledge of allegiance, the letter of the day, sing a few songs and go over the day's activities. Afterwards, we'll head to the kitchen for Table Time. Here we will work on fine motor skills and then do a craft. Then the kids will head to the basement for Playtime. We'll also have Snack Time, Story Time, Gross Motor/Music Time, and then head back to the front room for books and puzzles until the moms come to pick them up. Let's just say I'm taking on a lot when I'm 16 weeks pregnant. I hope it all works out.

The Circle Time Room is not quite finished. Eventually there will be the alphabet in the form of a train wrapping itself around the wall. As we complete a letter, we'll hang it up. Right now we just have a conductor ready to start his train over by the window.

I hope it works out. I have a mom who quit the same preschool Lucy was in to bring her to me. And another mom wants to bring her to me but I don't know if I could handle 5 kids. Some moms are willing to trade the teaching roll which eases my mind a little.

Here's to a new adventure.

Kelsey, you get 5 gold stars! That looks super intense. I love all the stuff on the walls. It looks like a real classroom. Good luck!

You amaze me. All while pregnant. And I really love the idea of dance in place of paying for preschool and teaching at home. I'm going to have to remember that. Finding a decent school is tough business. I've watched my sister do it this year and she's had to jump around a bit to find one that is worthwhile. Good luck with your preschool! I'd definitely get the other moms involved!

Are you kidding me?! Your preschool is amazing! I am beyond impressed! Since I can't bring Brynlee out to you, I WILL be copying your activities ;)
